No Wonder

Shoes are always my first point of inspiration. It is on them that we (literally) carry ourselves through life and the way details of how they are crafted and adorned make all the difference in who we are when we wear them. However, as I said in posts before, I have seen nothing that really inspires me lately. With tacky-wacky finds like those above, I am doomed to roam around without inspiration for eternity!

I have had zero inspiration to post anything lately. I'm not sure what it is, but I nothing has seemed extraordinary, spectacular or even just a teensy bit interesting. Menswear has been the only thing to peak my interest. Until sparks fly...

Best of the East Bay Party 2009

Tonight from 5pm-midnight, the East Bay Express is hosting a celebratory party for all that is the best in the East Bay at the Oakland Museum of California. The event will have multiple stages featuring local bands and musicians (including two of my favorite, Goapele and Souls of Mischief--both from Oakland!), international dancing, a professional contact sports ring and, speak to my heart, a DAI Style Lounge fashion show featuring local designers who will be selling their styles!
With free entrance and valet bike parking, there is really no reason not to go. Will I be seeing you there?

The King Lives On

In a tribute to the King of Pop, Mykromag staged a photoshoot at Jackson's public memorial at the Staples Center in L.A. The photos share both the power and energy that Michael fueled into the world as well as the glamour and influence of his costumes on the fashion scene. What I find most interesting in these photos is the distinction between the planned and natural environment--while it is obvious that the model is planted in the scene, the chaos of the memorial creates a very different energy, really expressing the life celebrated at this occasion.

Rather than saying two goodbyes in a row, I'd rather choose to believe that this life will forever be celebrated into eternity.

Naomi Sims

According to The New York Times, famed supermodel Naomi Sims passed away on Saturday at the age of 61 due to cancer. She was regarded as the world's first African-American supermodel and helped pave the way for many minorities. After gracing the covers of Cosmopolitan, LIFE and the like, Sims went on to start her own company making wigs for African American women as well as writing multiple books on beauty and the modeling industry.

Her influence on the world has been felt all over and her presense will be greatly missed.

The 2nd Annual San Francisco Fashion Awards took place last Sunday, July 27th at The Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco and yours truly was in attendance to bring you some of the Bay Area's fashion talent. It was hosted poolside with a DJ, live music, trunk vendors, shady cabana's as well an indoor and outdoor bar to help warm us up against the breezy SF weather! The Awards started off with a runway show featuring:
