Hometown

image: nytimes
The NY Times online travel section (an absolute fav of mine) decided to show my hometown some love. This thrills me for sure as Oakland is not usual seen as a vacation destination--as its often rough and sometimes unfair reputation gets around--but I must say that it probably could have done a better job. Maybe this will be a future task to take on for myself...hmm. Just a thought.

End of an Era

Living in the Bay Area, the Parkway Theater has been a monumental element in growing up--it made all the prospects of turning 21 even more exciting (you mean I can drink in public inside a movie theater?!). Unfortunately, economic crisis we've been faced with has taken its toll on this Oakland landmark. Today it will be closing its doors after offering the community cheap flicks, comfy couches and good beer for quite some time. I know this is completely unrelated to my normal subjects of choice, but I couldn't let this go unmentioned :(
Today the theater will host its final show as well as a petition to sign to urge the city to make this an official landmark in the city. Join if you can! See you there!
