Re-Post: "We Don't Need No Education"

While reading one of my new fav blogs, Jazzi McG, I found these photos from Purple Magazine. At first glance I thought, oh how cute. But just a second later I realized that I was looking at children. I am the first to admit that I love fashion magazines mostly for their advertisements, but I have to ask, what are we doing to our children? It is criminal and a real tragedy the way the industry has extended its reach to such a young demographic. Before being able to think entirely freely for themselves and develop their own opinions on what they are being subjected to, we are taking advantage of their innocence and vulnerability--the very essence of childhood.
What do you think?

I'm really not sure. I have to say this photo series makes me feel kind of uneasy, and I think it's because the kids aren't wearing children's clothing. I have much less of a problem with kids in onesies and that sort of thing, in a kid-like setting. What do you mean by "being subjected to," though? Kids being subjected to a beauty ideal/standard? Subjected to the modeling industry and its physical expectations? I don't think it's criminal at all (really, there is so much out there to destroy any innocence kids might maintain), but I do think it's in rather poor taste most of the time.

I don't think this editorial should be taken TOO seriously. The perspective I got was the idea of dress-up. Most of us try on stilettos at age 7, but what if those stilettos were Rodartes? It may be a bit extreme and controversial, but those are what make fashion editorials more than just clothes. They become a conversational topic. :)
